On December 12 and 13, people around the world will have the opportunity to connect with one another to celebrate International Mountain Day. The best way to celebrate is, of course, to clean up the mountains. Acceso PanAm is leading a coalition of outdoor organizations to launch a campaign called Montaña Limpia, or Clean Mountain, encouraging people in Latin America to give back to the environment that we all love and spread awareness about the importance of this cause.

“Most mountains provide beautiful mountaineering and climbing areas benefiting the outdoor community. However, negative impacts are continuously increasing in these areas,” said Zuleyma Rincón, Director of Escalada Sustentable and member of the Montaña Limpia committee. “Because of that we need to take action to clean, protect, and celebrate the mountains. We can help to preserve mountaineering and climbing areas for future generations.”

In order to reach their goal of 100km of trail clean-up, Acceso PanAm has created an app for participants to track their work, organize community clean-up days, and see what others around the continent are doing to protect their local areas.
